Complete Patch Yourself Up After Taking Damage

Use a First Aid Kit or Pills after taking damage to complete Patch Yourself Up in Nomad Drive Early Access. Both medicines also reduce poison, while using them when poisoned can complete the separate Cure the Poison objective if it is already on your list.

02

Check What Is Missing From Your Health Bar

Patch Yourself Up appears when you first take damage and the damage section shows on your health bar. Medicine becomes usable after you have lost at least 1 point of health or while you are poisoned. At full health without poison, pressing use does nothing and the medicine is not consumed.

A shortened bar does not always mean you have damage to heal. Hunger, thirst, tiredness, damage and poison all take space from the same bar, which has no numeric readout. Look at the condition represented on the bar before deciding whether you need medicine, food or drinking water.

You do not need to cause another accident just because the objective is open. Work with the damage already present and keep medicine available for when you need it. If you are healthy and have no poison, leave the kit alone until there is something for it to treat.

03

Use Medicine to Complete the Objective

  1. Check that Patch Yourself Up has appeared on your objective list. Its instruction is “Use a first aid kit to recover health,” and it becomes available after you first take damage.
  2. Choose a First Aid Kit or Pills from your supplies. Both qualify for the healing objective in Early Access, so Pills are an alternative even though the instruction names a kit.
  3. Use the medicine while you still have damage to heal. This completes Patch Yourself Up; using medicine only for poison does not substitute for healing damage.
  4. Check your objective list after treatment. If you were hurt and poisoned together, the same use can also complete Cure the Poison when that objective was already listed.
04

First Aid Kits vs Pills

MedicineTreatment
First Aid KitRestores up to 50 health and reduces poison by 2 points per minute.
PillsRestore up to 15 health and reduce poison by 1 point per minute.

Choose Pills for their smaller heal or a First Aid Kit when you want the larger health restoration. Either can satisfy Patch Yourself Up after damage. You do not need to find a kit solely to replace Pills you already have.

05

Treat Poison and Avoid Another Bad Meal

Cure the Poison appears when you first become poisoned. Use a First Aid Kit or Pills while poisoned to complete its treatment step, provided the objective is already on your list. Both medicines reduce poison, so watch your condition after treatment as well as the objective tick.

Mushrooms poison you when eaten and cannot be cooked. Steak and Drumstick also become poisonous after spoiling, so avoid rotten meat while recovering. Keep fresh food on a fridge or cooler shelf to stop it spoiling; those shelves do not need power.

06

Check These Conditions if the Objective Stays Open

  • Confirm that damage was still present when you used the medicine. Patch Yourself Up requires healing damage; a gap caused by hunger or thirst is a different condition on the shared bar.
  • Check whether you treated poison without having damage. That use can satisfy Cure the Poison while leaving the healing task open, because the objectives respond to different conditions.
  • If pressing use had no effect, check for full health without poison. In that state medicine cannot be consumed, so repeatedly pressing use will not complete the objective or spend the item.
  • Check whether you are following instructions for the old demo. Early Access build 26243889 lets both medicines complete Patch Yourself Up after damage; the older demo had a separate completion bug.
07

What Changed From the Old Demo

In old demo build 25361176, First Aid Kits and Pills could treat you without completing Patch Yourself Up. The objective failed to recognize healing from those medicines, so repeated treatment left it open. Early Access corrected that mismatch: healing damage now counts for Patch Yourself Up, while treating poison counts for Cure the Poison.

The replacement demo is a reduced-content version of a newer build, and old demo saves are incompatible with it. Update the demo through Steam if you still have the older installation. Keep the old demo bug separate from the Early Access instructions above.

Find Medicine and Keep Supplies Within Reach

Your starting Hippie Van comes with a First Aid Kit. More kits and Pills turn up along the road, and vehicles you find can bring another kit. Keep medicine somewhere easy to reach in the RV before heading out to scavenge.

Use the Nomad Drive items guide to compare medicine with the food, drinks and containers you find.

Use the beginner survival guide for drinking water and cooking food when hunger or thirst is shortening your bar.
