What to Put on the Tool Rack
The Tool Rack is intended to hold the Grinder, Polisher, Crowbar, Flashlight, Metal Detector, Pan and Shovel, but players report reliable attachment mainly with the Grinder and Polisher. Store anything that refuses to hang on a suitable wall, shelf or floor, and keep frequently used equipment easy to reach.
Find a Rack and Choose Its Position
Tool Racks turn up along the road, while the starting house supplies a Grinder and Polisher. Until you find a rack, place those tools on the RV floor or a shelf with enough room. Choose a storage spot you can reach easily when you return from working outside.
You can mount the Tool Rack on an outside RV wall, or on an inside wall of the Hippie Van or School Bus. On the C-Class RV, mount it outside. Pick its position before filling the surrounding space with equipment so the front remains convenient to use.
Mount the Rack and Hang a Tool
- Choose Place while holding the Tool Rack to enter placement mode and begin positioning it.
- Position the rack against a supported wall so it has a valid mounting surface.
- Use the rotation keys displayed on screen to turn the rack into the orientation you want.
- Use Confirm Placement to finish mounting the rack before you begin adding tools.
- Choose Place while holding the Grinder or Polisher to begin positioning a tool that players report hangs reliably.
- Position the tool against the front of the mounted rack to use its tool attachment surface.
- Use Confirm Placement to complete the tool placement, then repeat the process for other equipment you want to hang.
- Move a tool that refuses to attach onto a suitable shelf or floor so it remains available for your next stop.
Choose Storage for Each Tool
| Equipment | Storage Choice |
|---|---|
| Grinder and Polisher | Start with these on the Tool Rack; players report that they attach reliably. |
| Shovel | Rack attachment can fail in Early Access. Use the floor or a shelf if it will not hang. |
| Crowbar | An intended rack tool that can also attach directly to the inside walls of the Hippie Van or School Bus. |
| Flashlight, Metal Detector and Pan | Try rack placement, with a suitable shelf or floor available if attachment fails. |
| Tires | Store them directly on the inside walls of the Hippie Van or School Bus, or use suitable floor space. |
Use Surfaces That Accept Your Cargo
The floor and loading space accept items and furniture, while shelves accept items and furniture that fit. A built Roof Rack also accepts furniture and other cargo, but it must first be built using a Roof Rack Blueprint. The dashboard is limited to small items and does not accept furniture, stoves or the Cooking Pot.
Placement mode snaps items onto supported surfaces. If the game displays “Too big for this surface” or “Too tall to fit here,” try a roomier position or another suitable surface. Use Place and Confirm Placement for traveling cargo: items placed on the vehicle's floor, shelves, dashboard or roof rack stay put while you drive.
Carry More and Keep Essentials Reachable
Early Access starts you with two hotbar slots; a Small Backpack raises that to three, and a Large Backpack raises it to four. Both backpack types are available in the starting house. You wear one backpack at a time, and removing it returns you to two slots.
Wear a backpack before moving loot, then park the RV close to the building to shorten each return trip. Keep the tools for your current task together: the Metal Detector finds buried treasure, and the Shovel digs it up. Carrying them together lets you switch tasks without walking back for the missing tool.
Give repair equipment and urgent supplies positions you can reach without rearranging the cabin. Keep cargo clear of vehicle controls and the driver's view, and check access to the ignition, steering wheel and handbrake before departure. Put equipment back in its usual place after use so your next stop begins with less searching.
Placement and Driving Questions
- Why does my furniture rotate 90 degrees by itself when I place it?
- The unwanted-turn reports describe the demo. In Early Access, placement controls turn items in quarter-turns: use the displayed rotation keys to set the orientation before confirming. Use Cancel Placement to back out if the position is wrong.
- Will my stored equipment move while I drive?
- Items and furniture placed on the vehicle's floor, shelves, dashboard or roof rack stay put while driving. Finish loading with Place and Confirm Placement so your equipment is properly placed for the journey.
